Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons and daughters of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers of the Church's mission: "Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word" (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1213).
Parents; congratulations on the gift of new life in your family. The faith community shares in your joy and responsibility of leading your child to God, our loving Creator.
If Our Lady of the Lake is not your home parish but you desire to have your baby’s baptism here among family and friends simply contact your home parish to inform them of your desire. They will have classes for you to take as a new parent. Ask them to mail us a letter stating that you have taken the classes and are ready for baptism. The pastor of your home parish is your families spiritual papa. So the Church asks you to first inform your home parish. Fill out the form on this page to Choose a baptism Mass.
Your parish is here to help you in this awesome responsibility through many avenues:
First: At Baptism, infants and pre-school children are initiated into the Christian community and begin a life-long journey as a committed disciple of Christ. Since the infant or small child cannot make this commitment on their own, the parent who requests Baptism for their child states that they wish to transmit the faith in which they believe and live to their child. Parents wishing to have their infant or pre-school child baptized are required to attend Baptism Preparation.
Please plan to attend one of the series prior to the birth of your baby.
Godparents are invited to attend with the parents whenever possible.
All parents are welcomed to attend the sessions to renew their resolve to raise their children in the faith of the Church.
Second: As your children grow and develop in our community we offer faith formation through Religious Education, Children's Liturgy of the Word, Sacramental Preparation, festivals and more.

Many people are not aware, but the role of godparent is not only to be a support and of faith in the life of the child but also to be a representative of the community of faith into which the child is being baptized. As such, it follows that the godparent is a fully initiated, active member of the Roman Catholic community. Full initiation in the life of the Church reflects the very life of the Trinity: Father (Baptism) Son (Eucharist) and Holy Spirit (Confirmation). Therefore, a godparent has received these three sacraments and is active in the sacramental and evangelical mission of the church. Godparents are asked to certify their eligibility through their parish.
